I just bought a new machine today (Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200, 4GB RAM + additional graphics card to support 4 monitors) and installed Ubuntu 8.10 on top of the rubbish Vista.
Spent about 3 hrs setting it up - installing LAMP - syncing my databases(5GB of mysql databases), etc.
The final piece of the jigsaw remained the Google Adwords Editor which I use for almost 6hrs a week! I get 20hrs of work done in 6 due to the fabulous Adwords Editor which spans across 2 or 3 monitors(as the case may be) as I can view everything I need to without waiting for hundreds of pages to load.
Adobe Photoshop was the only other software for which I would want to use windows. But, for Adwords Editor, I had almost assumed that Google would have a version for Linux. To my total shock and disbelief, they only have the software for Windows and Mac. I mean, come on, don’t they have some good GTK developers to develop the same functionality for Linux or do they think Linux users don’t administer adwords accounts at work or for their clients ? (And yeah, before you start to Wine, it still needs windows dll no? - I wanna be microsoft free!!!! and virus free and all the trouble that comes along with anything windows - including security issues - I really don’t want somefool messing about with me now). Nothing less than a native linux software will do.
Go on Google guys, make my life easy with your 20% free time and me along with other fellow ‘Ubuntuers’ will bless your cotton socks this christmas.
